Texas law enforcement often doesn’t mirror the communities it serves

A racial divide separates many Texas law enforcement agencies from the communities they protect.

This Reporting Texas analysis found that licensed peace officers — the men and women who enforce the law throughout the state — are disproportionately white. In many communities, the face of law enforcement doesn’t look much different than it did before the Civil Rights Movement.
